The San Jose City Council will hold a weeklong series of study sessions commencing August 21, 2003 to consider ways that the City and the community can help put people back to work and restore the local economy. Mayor Ron Gonzales has called upon the City Council to focus on strategies that will create jobs, attract and retain businesses, and restore economic opportunity for residents and businesses in the face of the prolonged Silicon Valley and national recession.
MobileFrame is recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the downtown San Jose area. The mobile computing sector is one of the hottest industries in technology today with exponential market expansion forecasted. ResearchPortal.com predicts the number of 'small form' computing devices to grow to nearly 450 million units in 2007, thus outnumbering desktop and notebook PCs. MobileFrame is well positioned to take advantage of this market opportunity and plans to greatly expand their San Jose business operations.
"Silicon Valley has lost more than 200,000 jobs over the last two years, which is more than the rest of California combined" said Gonzales. "Currently almost one out of every ten San Jose residents who wants to work cannot find a job". The Mayor and City Council are seeking ideas from a wide range of community stakeholders including business, industry and labor. Their goal is to develop practical recommendations to create a supportive environment for job creation, remove barriers to economic growth and stimulate recovery in San Jose.
